Ordering NCR books: 10 things to decide before you ask for a quote

Get these ten things clear and your quote will be accurate, your proof will be right first time, and your books will work the way your team does. If you're not sure about any of them, ask. That's what we're here for.

  1. What the book is for. Invoice, quote, delivery note, receipt, order or job card? It decides the layout, how many parts you need and where the signatures go.
  2. How many parts. Duplicate (2), triplicate (3) or four-part (4). Count who needs a copy: the customer, the book, the office, the driver. Don't pay for a copy nobody files.
  3. Copy colours. White, yellow and pink are standard on multi-part sets, so everyone knows which copy is theirs.
  4. Size. A4 for long item lists, A5 for most books, A6 or DL for receipts. Think about where the book lives: a glovebox, a clipboard or a counter.
  5. Sets per book. Our standard is 50 triplicate or 75 duplicate sets. Fewer sets make a thinner book; more sets mean fewer books to reorder.
  6. Numbering. Do you need it (almost always, yes), and what's the start number? Carrying on from old books? Give us the last number. Several branches? Each gets its own range. How numbering works →
  7. Perforation and binding. Normally the top copies tear out on a perforation and the last copy stays in a quarter-bound book with a writing shield. Glued pads or loose sets suit clipboards and printer trays.
  8. What's printed on it. Logo, company and legal name, registration and VAT number, address, contacts, banking details, terms, and the columns you actually use. If you're VAT registered, have your accountant check the tax invoice wording on the proof.
  9. Ink colours. One or two colours read best under a pen and cost less. Use full colour for a logo if it matters to you.
  10. Quantity. Most of the cost is the setup. Ten books is rarely ten times the price of one. Order what you'll use in a year, and ask us to price two quantities.
